With the Curve project on indefinite hiatus, main man Dean Garcia moves closer to the mixing boards and synths to create his personal sideproject, Headcase. Resembling a lush arrangement of quasi-ambient-trip-hop-downtempo-dark industrially instigating fine tunings, Garcia offers a special look into his programming and arrangement style, including vocal performances from Toni Halliday and Rose Berlin. A fine performance all round, Garcia plays with electronics in an enticing fashion, in addition to his percussion and bass programming. This is by means not the type of album you want to listen to before going to sleep, especially the 'gasping', 'gagging', 'strangling' and 'choking' samples used vividly on 'Gasp For Air', a frightening, down-tempo venture to the darkside of trip hop. Other inventive tracks that enhance the album are 'Lola' with the eerily yet seductive vocals of Toni Halliday. review by DJ UXB (nicked from Digital Artifact, issue #14) |
